Helping Working Families and Individuals to Thrive
The Atlanta Prosperity Campaign connects public benefits to people who qualify, assisting them in securing healthier financial futures.
- Benefit Screening and Application Assistance Services to determine eligibility for economic support programs such as Medicaid, food stamps (SNAP), energy assistance and more.
- Introduction to other asset-building services that connect working families to local providers offering services such as affordable housing options, credit counseling, rent/utility assistance, banking, job skills and financial literacy programs.
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA): In summer of 2013, it was announced that the local VITA program would transition away from the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign to become one of the supports offered by United Way of Greater Atlanta as part of the organization’s income division, one of four focus areas. United Way officially began administering the VITA program in metro Atlanta on November 1, 2013. For six years prior to this transition, the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign managed the VITA program and helped expand participation exponentially. In fiscal year 2011/2012 alone, VITA provided free tax preparations for 12,000 low-to-moderate income families and individuals, putting over $16 million back in their pockets. Learn more about VITA's free tax preparation services here.
