Doctors Against Hunger
Annual Golf Against Hunger Thursday, May 17, 2012
This benefit for the Food Bank has proven to be an excellent opportunity to get some sunshine and take a swing against hunger! A scramble format, this tournament includes a Hole in One, Longest Drive, and Closest to Pin contests with awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Grab a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy top movies under the stars for a great cause! On Friday night, enjoy dinner served by Atlanta’s favorite food trucks, along with live music preceding the film screening of The Trip. On Saturday, the festivities kick off at noon with food trucks, an artist market, lawn games, kids’ activities, and more – all leading up to a screening of Midnight in Paris at 9 P.M. For admission, bring a donation of 3 canned goods or $5 to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

The Atlanta Street Food Festival will showcase the top Atlanta area food trucks and bring awareness to this growing community that provides high end, quality food in a unique way. A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Members of Atlanta's Jewish community are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations as part of the annual High Holiday Services Operation Isaiah Food Drive from Rosh Hashanah to the eve of Yom Kippur. Simply bring food and drop in the special barrels prior to services at participating metro congregations.

CANstruction® combines the competitive spirit of a
design/build competition with a unique way to help feed hungry
people. Competing teams, lead by architects and engineers,
showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made
entirely out of canned and packaged foods. At the close of the
exhibitions all of the food used in the structures is donated
to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

25th Annual Food-A-Thon

The Atlanta Apartment Association is gearing up for their 25th annual Food-A-Thon! Each year, association members spend six months collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars and pounds of food for ACFB. Every October, they make their special delivery during a parade and block party. If you live in an apartment community, ask your management office for details on how you can participate in this awesome effort!

Enjoy a fabulous evening of live old-time radio re-creations, complete with on-stage sound effects, presented by members of Atlanta's professional acting unions: the Screen Actor's Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors Equity Association. The 2011 celebration of radio's past included such fan favorites as Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and X Minus One with a humorous extraterrestrial tale from the future entitled "Venus Is a Man's World."
WordFeast: Food for the Body and Soul 2011

“WordFeast: Food for the Body and Soul” is an annual evening of words, works and performances by prominent authors, playwrights, musicians and spoken-word artists that helps the Food Bank serve those in need during the holidays. Last year’s event featured the talent of author, storyteller, actor, comedian and event emcee Rob Cleveland; Oprah’s Book Club® author, critically acclaimed novelist, poet and playwright Pearl Cleage; author and EDGAR award winning playwright Phillip DePoy; author, playwright, Creative Loafing's 2010 "Best Local Playwright," and GA Voice's "Best Local Writer" Topher Payne; and more! The evening will also feature musician Eric Moore. A reception, meet and greet, and book signing, sponsored by The Real Chow Baby and Charis Books and More, concludes the evening. All proceeds benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Stay tuned for info on the 2013 Stamp Out Hunger food drive. This food drive takes place on a Saturday in early May. Simply leave a bag of nonperishable groceries at your mailbox and your letter carrier will pick them up when he or she delivers your mail. What an easy way to help those in need of food assistance!
