Food Drives

Be a STAR this summer!

With today's economic downturn, more Georgians than ever are struggling to put food on the table. STAR 94 is partnering with the Food Bank to provide a solution, and they need your help! Please participate in the STAR 94 virtual food drive today. A donation of even $10.94 can make a big difference in the lives of families in need.

First Things First

Thank you so much for holding a food drive!

As you consider holding a food drive, please note the following.

  1. Read our general information about food drives page found by clicking here or on the barrel.
  2. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions Page.
  3. Contact our Food Drive Coordinator Julia Blackmon, to determine available drive dates and schedule your drive.
If you've already spoken with our Food Drive Coordinator and know about the blackout dates and other important considerations, you can skip this information section and go directly to the interactive setup page anytime by clicking here or on the barrel to the right.

Important Considerations

In order to provide the best possible service, we ask that you be aware of the following information as you consider your food drive. Thank you for understanding.

  1. Scheduling:
We must respectfully insist that you communicate with our Food Drive Coordinator, either by email or by calling call (404) 892-3333 ext. 1227 to confirm available delivery and pickup dates before filling out an order form.
  2. Preparation Time:
We must receive the order form at least 7 business days prior to the start of your scheduled food drive.
  3. Blackout Dates:
Deliveries and pickups of food drive barrels and materials will not be scheduled for certain dates, due to holidays or other concerns. Please check back for any 2008 blackout dates.
  4. Hours of Operation:
    Deliveries/pickups are scheduled Monday–Friday between 8:00AM and 3:30PM.
  5. Materials Delivery/Pickup Location:
Food drive materials are delivered and received only at loading docks. Please make appropriate arrangements with your facilities and/or security management.
  6. Downloadable Promotional Materials:
Once you have set up and scheduled your food drive, you may download motivational posters and other materials for free from our website. Click here to access these materials.
  7. Schedule Confirmation:
If you have not already done so, you will receive a confirmation of your scheduled food drive from the staff of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, either verbally or via email. Filling out the setup form does not constitute such confirmation, nor does the automatically generated followup page.

Increase The Value Of Your Food Drive

Any reduction in the expense incurred by the Food Bank supporting a food drive frees up additional resources that can provide even more help for our neighbors in need. Here are some simple things you can do that will dramatically increase the value returned to the community from your drive.
  1. Use your own collection materials.
We are more than happy to bring you collection materials. However, if you provide boxes, tubs, bags and/or barrels to collect and transport your food donation, this saves the Food Bank the expense of these items. It also saves tremendously on transportation costs, as it literally cuts in half the number of times we have to physically visit your facility. Any collection materials should be clean, sanitary, and sturdy enough to allow for lifting and transport of the donated product they will contain.
  2. Bring your donation to the Food Bank.
Again, we are more than happy to come to you and pickup your food drive donation. However, if it is not inconvenient to you, it saves on transportation expenses if you can deliver your donation to our Product Rescue Center. (Click here for directions.) Just be sure that the product is weighed and credited to your drive at the time you bring it in.
  3. Host a Virtual Food Drive.
You can also help us save on transportation and material costs by hosting a web based "virtual" food drive. This allows persons to contribute to your food drive anytime, day or night, simply by making a monetary donation via a secure, specially designed Atlanta Community Food Bank online donation page. We can even "brand" the page with the logo of your company or organization, if that is your desire. If you are interested, please contact our Product Procurement Manager by email at sarah.robertson@acfb.org or by phone at (404) 892-3333 ext. 1233 for more information.
