Donating to Atlanta's Table Made Simple for Individuals

  1. If you are planning a special event, large party ( weddings, company parties, etc.) consider donating any excess prepared food.
  2. Call Atlanta's Table staff at 404-892-1250 to see if your event space is already a partner with the project.
  3. Ask your event space coordinator or caterer if they already participate with Atlanta's Table. Thank them for helping the community.
  4. If not, ask them to make this their first donation and consider continuing making food donations in the future.
  5. Call Atlanta's Table staff at 404-892-1250. The following information is needed: date, location, contact and other details that might assist in better customer service.
  6. Atlanta's Table staff will then call the event space coordinator to make arrangement for supplies and pick-up for the donation. They will also coordinate the pick up schedule for the donation.
  7. Once it has been determined the excess food from you event will be donated to Atlanta's Table, we ask the food donor to follow these guidelines :
    1. Transfer food to either a bag or pan. Pans with lids costs Atlanta's Table approximately twice what a comparable volume of bags cost. We encourage our donors to assist with keeping our costs down by utilizing bags whenever possible.
    2. Label food with product name, date & your location's name. Example: Beef Stew - 3/12/06 - Mom's Diner
    3. Food is then either refrigerated or frozen depending on the date of your scheduled pick-up. It is preferred that foods are frozen to maximize freshness.
  8. When your donation is picked up, you will receive a receipt indicating the type of product and its weight. This information should be passed on to your accountant as there are generous tax advantages available.
  9. Your donation is placed on a refrigerated truck and will be distributed to a non-profit, community-based agency later that day. Those agencies include day-care centers for low-income families, facilities for seniors and persons in recovery, shelters for battered women and the homeless and programs for the mentally challenged.

MANY THANKS FOR JOINING US IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER AND FOOD WASTE.

According to a report by the USDA, each year 27% of the total food supply is wasted. That is 96 billion pounds of food! Recovering 5% of that waste would feed 14 million people.
