Volunteering at the Food Bank

The Atlanta Community Food Bank relies on more than 15,000 volunteers every year. Our year-round projects offer fun ways for individuals and groups of all kinds to contribute their time, talents and resources. In addition, we often call upon volunteers for special events and other opportunities. Thank you for your desire to join us in our mission to fight hunger.

  1. Review the variety of ways to volunteer to determine the opportunities that interest you.
  2. Complete and submit a Volunteer Application/Request (if you are a new volunteer or if you have not completed a Volunteer Application/Request in the last 90 days).

Individual Volunteers: If you are an individual volunteer, complete the Individual Volunteer Application/Request (MS Word Format) and return it to volunteers@acfb.org.
Group Volunteers: There are several opportunities for organization members to volunteer together. Most projects can accommodate up to 15-25 individuals (the maximum number may vary based on the specific project) subject to availability. If you are interested in requesting an opportunity for a group to volunteer, complete the Group Volunteer Application/Request Form (MS Word Format) and return it to volunteers@acfb.org.
Returning Volunteers: If you have completed a Volunteer Application form in the last 90 days, and you would like to return, you may send your request (including your name, phone, email and mailing address) to volunteers@acfb.org.

Please note: Submitting an application or email request does not guarantee that you are scheduled for a shift. Your request will be reviewed by the Volunteer Department and you will receive a confirmation or response to your request. If you have additional questions for a member of the Volunteer Department staff, contact: volunteers@acfb.orgor (404) 892-3333 ext. 1242.

  • Year Round Needs with Food Bank Projects
PRC Sorting Our Product Rescue (Food Sorting) Center, Kids in Need project and Community Gardens rely on volunteers throughout the year. Volunteer slots fill up quickly, especially on Saturdays, so please have more than one available date in mind when you contact us. We will do our best to accommodate you!
  • Special Events and Opportunities
Our Volunteers work some of the premiere social and food security events in the Metro Atlanta Area, including Taste of the Nation, Supper Club and, of course, the annual Hunger Walk. In addition to special events, the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign provides opportunities for volunteers to provide valuable assistance to those most in need in our community.
  • Administrative and Office Volunteer Support Hours
The Food Bank values the support of volunteers in the administrative offices. Office volunteers typically volunteer with some frequency (weekly or monthly).
  • Court Related Community Service Hours
Mandatory service hours are tracked differently than our regular projects and in order to receive documentation of hours served for this purpose, volunteers must attend an orientation at the Food Bank PRIOR to volunteering. For information about the Food Bank’s mandatory service program or any court related community service, please contact Erskin Harvey at erskin.harvey@acfb.org or call (404) 419-1730 to hear a message including information about requirements and the orientation schedule.
