The Atlanta Community Food Bank offers a wide variety of volunteer experiences for individual volunteers, from sorting and packing food boxes in our Product Rescue Center (PRC) to working in our administrative offices.
Court Related Community Service
The Atlanta Community Food Bank provides a progam for individuals seeking volunteer hours in conjunction with court related circumstances or minor legal infractions. For information on how to fulfill your court-related community service hours, click here.
Individual Opportunities
Product Rescue Center - Sort and pack food donations in our climate controlled warehouse. Pre-set shifts are offered weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturdays. Appropriate for ages 8 and up.
Kids In Need - assist teachers with shopping for school supplies in our climate controlled Kids in Need warehouse during weekday afternoons Mondays - Thursdays. Individual volunteers are asked to make an ongoing weekly or bi-monthly commitment to this project for a semester's duration and to attend a separate orientation before signing up for this project. Semesters run August - December and January - May.
Administrative Volunteering
- Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, organizing and phone calls. Shifts are flexible, and take place Monday -Friday from 9am to 5pm during our normal office hours.
Special Events - Choose from a variety of fun events in the Metro Atlanta Area that benefit the Food Bank.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program - Help provide thousands of dollars to your neighbors in need. The VITA Tax Program provides free tax preparation services to qualified working families in metro Atlanta. To provide this service, the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign (APC) needs hundreds of volunteers during the tax season (January – April) each year. Intake Administrators, Interpreters, Benefit Screeners, Quality Reviewers and Tax Preparers needed. No prior financial experience necessary, but required training will be offered for all volunteer positions except interpreters. Weekday, weeknight and weekend opportunities available. All volunteer slots for this opportunity are currently filled - thanks to our wonderful volunteers!
Benefit Screening Program - Help working families year-round apply for economic supports (such as food stamps, children's health insurance, child care assistance, and energy assistance). These services are offered year-round at sites throughout metro Atlanta and in conjunction with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program during the tax season. All volunteer slots for this opportunity are currently filled - thanks to our wonderful volunteers!
