Volunteering at the Food Bank

Special event volunteers assist the Food Bank with a variety of activities, events, food drives and outings throughout the year. Below is a list of upcoming opportunities to get involved with the Food Bank.

Event Info:
This evening is focused on educating young professionals and sharing opportunities to get involved with the community. Volunteer Role: Volunteers (1-2 needed) will share information and educate young professionals about ways to join the fight against hunger with the Food Bank. This is also a great opportunity to share your volunteer experience and encourage others to join in the fight against hunger.

Event: Feeding Hope, A Multifaith Celebration

Event Info:
The fourth annual multifaith worship service for hunger action month. The Atlanta Community Food Bank and the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta understand that hunger is more than a societal issue--it is a spiritual issue. We are reaching across all faith traditions to join together in the common goal of ending hunger in Atlanta.

Volunteer Role:
Volunteers (15 volunteers needed) serve as greeters, parking lot assistants, ushers and reception hosts. Volunteers will also help with tear down at the close of the event.

Volunteer Requirements:
Ideal for mature high school and above volunteers.

Volunteer Shift:
5:15pm - 9:00pm

Volunteer Perks:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience in this powerful and moving event.


Event: Fill-Up @ the Food Bank

Saturday, Sept. 20th

How Event Benefits ACFB:
As part of Hunger Action Month - Fill-Up @ the Food Bank is a day dedicated to educating the public about the importance of fighting hunger and filling up the food bank with food and supporters before the busiest season of the year. Tours of the facility, a volunteer fair with representatives from ACFB and partner agencies and much more.

Volunteer Shift:
9:30am - 2:30pm (event hours: 10:00am - 2:00pm)

Volunteer Positions:

Feast or Famine Game:
Volunteers will facilitate an interactive, life-size game designed to educate participants about the issues of hunger and poverty. Volunteers will assist with packing up the game and supplies. Interaction with children is central to this job and fun-seeking volunteers welcome!

Hunger 101:
Assist with 15 minute interactive seminars to educate attendees about hunger and poverty which will be offered throughout the event.

Greeters and Parking:
Welcome and direct guests to parking, food drop-off and other event areas. Volunteers will assist with monitoring the parking lot throughout the event and help to tear down and pack up supplies at the close of the event.

Bring a Bag Get a Bag:
Volunteers will assist visitors with dropping off their food donations and distribute recyclable grocery bags and food drive information to donors. Volunteers will also assist with tear down at the close of the event. Information Station Host: Volunteers will share information at display stations throughout the building and at the volunteer/agency fair. Product Rescue Center, Kids In Need, Community Gardens and other ACFB program information will be provided for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for regular volunteers to share your experience and get others excited about how they can get involved. Volunteers will also assist with tear down of the event.

Refreshments:
Volunteers will prepare and serve popcorn and made-to-order sno-cones with attendees. Volunteers will also assist with tear down at the close of the event.

Volunteer Perks:
Be a part of a fun day of making a difference! Lunch is also provided for volunteers.

Event: United Health Care Volunteer Fair

Event Info:
This volunteer fair provides United Health Care employees with information about how to get involved in the community. The ACFB display will help to educate attendees about our mission and encourage involvement in volunteer and other ACFB programs.

Volunteer Shift:
9:00 am - 12 noon

Volunteer Role:
Volunteers (1-2 needed) will share information about ways to join the fight against hunger with the Food Bank. This is also a great opportunity to share your volunteer experience and encourage others to join in the fight against hunger.

Volunteer Requirements:
Mature high school age and above volunteers with ACFB volunteer experience required.


Event: ENVIRO-Expo USA

Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15

Event Info:
Celebration of America Recycles Day and promotion of 'going green' efforts and organizations throughout in the community.

ACFB's booth at the ENVIRO Expo will educate attendees how ACFB has been recycling for over 29 years and invite other to join us in our fight against hunger!

Volunteers (1-2 volunteers per shift) will share information about ACFB programs and encourage participants to get involved in our mission to fight hunger and recycle at the same time! Mature high school age and above volunteers with ACFB volunteer experience welcome.

Event: FalCAN Food Drive @ the Atlanta Falcons Game

How Info:
In partnership with the Atlanta Falcons - ACFB conducts a food drive outside of the Falcons and encourages fans to donate food or funds to the ACFB cause. Food and financial donations will be accepted and volunteers have a chance show their spirit for the Falcons and ACFB!

Volunteer Position:
Accept Food Donations: Volunteers will be providing a smiling cheery face to assist and thank Falcon Fans for their food donation. Light lifting required.

Accept Monetary Donations:
Volunteers will accept and thank Falcon Fans for their monetary donations. Also, encourage fans who did not bring can goods that we are also able to take monetary donations.

Volunteer Schedule:
9:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Volunteer Requirements:
Mature high school age and above volunteers. Volunteer activity include moderate to heavy lifting. Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes and dress for outdoor weather.


Event Description: De-CANSTRUCTION - Demolition with a Purpose

Event Info:
CANSTRUCTION is a 10 day event where local architects and engineers construct extraordinary, larger-than-life, colorful sculptures out of cans. These giant structures are on display for 10 days and the display is open and free to the public.

The day after the close of the event volunteers come together and carefully de-construct the sculptures and help the Food Bank reclaim thousand of pounds of canned goods.

Volunteer Role:
15-20 volunteers needed. 18 yrs of age and above must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting, packing and hauling of food. In addition to careful deconstruction and packing of the sculptures, volunteers will haul items on dollies to pick up areas. Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes for this activity.

Volunteer Shift Time:
8:00 am - 1:00 pm
