This morning, we hosted a group of lawyers and law firms to help garner support for the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, a statewide food and fund drive to benefit the seven food banks of the Georgia Food Bank Association. Attorney General Sam Olens stopped by to help rally the troops to make this year’s Legal Food Frenzy bigger and better than ever. Also speaking today was ACFB Executive Director, Bill Bolling; last year’s regional Legal Food Frenzy winner, Elizabeth Fite of Kutak Rock LLP, and Darrell Sutton, President Elect of the Young Lawyers Division of the GA Bar Association.
We all know lawyers are the competitive type and the Legal Food Frenzy is a fun way for lawyers and law firms to challenge one another all in the name of helping fight hunger. Past participants shared best practices from their drives, including managing partners endorsements, offering jeans day in the middle of the week or friendly team or department competitions.
Last year was the inaugural event and participating law firms in our service area raised $107,509.43 and collected 20,738 pounds of food for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Statewide, the drive raised more than 600,000 pounds to benefit Georgia food banks. A total of 220 law firms and legal organizations representing 15,621 employees competed in the food frenzy. The Attorney General Cup winner was Adrienne P. Hobbs, PC, a sole practitioner who raised enough funds and food for 25,586 pounds! Sam Olens wants to break the total record this year--will they do it? They’ll have between April 22 and May 3 to raise the most funds and food. Firms of all sizes are welcomed—almost 150 have signed up to date and we’d love to reach 200 statewide.
